I’m in the process of decorating both my older two boys’ bedrooms. It’s been a slow process – in my head I know what I’m going to do & how it’s going to look when it’s finished, but actually getting it done is a whole different deal.
My 7-year-old wants a basketball/soccer theme in his room. My 4-year-old is obsessed with Hot Wheels, so he wants his room filled with anything car-related. I have a few vintage car & road signs I plan to hang, but I also wanted to do some sort of sign for his name. I wasn’t really sure how or what I was going to do for that, and then I found some letters at Hobby Lobby that look like pieces of a license plate – and then I had a plan.
We have a palette in our garage I’ve been making my husband save for a different project, so I asked him to take 3 boards off of it for my sign. He had lots of “help.” 😉 I arranged them how I wanted & he screwed them together using some scrap wood we had.
I lightly sanded the boards, I still wanted them to look a little rough/rustic so I didn’t sand too much. Then stained them with some stain we had leftover from another project, which was Varathane Wood Stain in the color Provincial.
Once the stain was dry, I arranged the letters a little haphazardly across the boards & screwed them on (I asked hubs to take over so I could get some pictures, notice again all our “help,” lol).
It turned out exactly how I pictured, I think it’s so cute. Hopefully it looks as good in his room. I’ll post pictures once I finally get the wall painted & everything hung 🙂
